About me

I'm Helen. I qualified as a counsellor in 2016
As an adolescent I had my own experience of poor mental health,  and it took a long time to recover. I fortunately had access to excellent talking therapies, which were integral to my recovery.
As an adult, I became acutely aware of the mental and emotional wellbeing of others around me.  Friends, family and within my work supporting young people in school. Mental health affects everybody!
I am passionate about my work, offering a safe, confidential space for clients to explore their thoughts and feelings without judgement. We all have busy lives, many responsibilities, and this can take a toll on our mental health and emotional wellbeing. I want  talking therapy to be available to everyone who wants it, and unfortunately there are often barriers and lengthy waiting lists. I offer flexibility in terms of meeting times, I can even come and see you in your own home if that works for you. We just need an undisturbed hour.

My experience

My career took a natural progression, working with challenging students in a Pupil Referral Unit, then as a groupworker for the Youth Offending Service.  I then spent 6 years with the YOS as a Case Manager and it was during this time I successfully completed my Counselling Diploma. From here I spent 18 months as an MST (Multi Systemic Therapy) practitioner. When this role ended I made the decision to create my own private practise, and here we are today!!

Frequently asked questions

  •  What is counselling? -  working with a trained professional to resolve personal, social, or psychological problems and difficulties
  • Is it private? - sessions are confidential, however if you disclose serious harm to yourself or others, or serious criminal activity I would have a legal obligation to break confidentiality
  • Do I need counselling? - sometimes talking to others is helpful, like a friend or partner. However some people benefit from talking their problems through with somebody outside their lives, with no agenda or investment in the outcome. Some issues may require more professional help, such as trauma, anxiety, depression etc
  • How can I be sure of my counsellors professionalism? - I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy)
  • Why should I choose to pay privately for counselling? - It is true there are free counselling services available, however there are often lengthy waiting lists, and inflexibility with appointments. I will work with you to find the best time and place, and generally will have availability within two weeks of your contact, and will make contact with you within two days of your message  by phone or email.
